➤ Strategy 1: Expose the Mansplaining
To the mansplainer:
-- "Your statement can come across as dismissive or suggesting I'm inexperienced in this field. What did you mean by that?"
-- "Why are you explaining this to me?"
➤ Strategy 2: Expose the Ignorance
To the mansplainer:
-- "You claim X. What is your experience in this area?"
-- "You claim X. What is this observation based on?"
➤ Strategy 3: Keep Calm and Carry On
Disengage; Walk away; Block.
➤ Strategy 4: Ask others to educate the mansplainer
To an authority figure or ally, about the mansplainer:
--"This person [the mansplainer] may not have gotten feedback before on how their comments are coming across. Would you mind alerting them to that?"
➤ Bystanders can use modified versions of the same strategies.
Ally to mansplainer:
-- "Your statement can come across as dismissive or suggesting this person [the mansplained] is inexperienced in this field. What did you mean by that?"
➤ Bystanders can also signal their recognition of the dismissed expertise
Ally to mansplainer:
-- "I trust this person's [the mansplained] observation. They have a lot of experience in this field"
